8th Dec 2007 - Club Championship and Harvey Series Results
Posted are the club championship results for 2007. Brad Cooper has proven yet again that speed and reliability are a good combination by taking out the driver's championship. Second was picked up by Dave Rohrlach, closely followed by Steve Armour. For the rest of the results, follow the link.
29th Nov 2007 - Harvey Results
Harvey results have now been posted. Congratulations to all winners, including Beau, who managed to walk off with the outright after a great tussle with Eric. Commiserations to those who broke, blew or otherwise destroyed their cars during the course of the night. It was especially good to see a bit of interest from the Edge buggy crews; and who'd have thought one of them would've ended up 4th outright. For the rest of the results, have a look here.
The AGM held on Tuesday night also saw a new (or not so new) set of faces elected* to the committee. A full list will be posted as it comes to hand, however the search is still on for a Treasurer. If anyone within the club knows of or is someone who could fill this position, can they give Daniel a call. Note that offers have been made by club members to assist with the running of this position.
* used in the broadest sense of the word.
22nd Nov 2007 - Harvey - This Weekend!
Harvey is scheduled for this coming Saturday. Yep; that's this weekend, the 24th November from 5pm onwards. Competitors should note that scrutineering will be held at the venue between 12:30pm and 2:30pm; so don't be late! There's a competitor list posted on the OffroadOz forum (here).
If that wasn't enough, someone's scheduled the Annual General Meeting for the following Tuesday (27th Nov); so you'll have just enough time to clean the car before it's off to sink a few beers and tell everyone of the "one that got away" (or whatever excuse you can think of for not beating Beau). There's also the small matter of committee positions for next year...
28th Nov 2007 - Harvey Short Course (Round 3)
The sup. regs. for the last round of racing at Harvey for the year (and possibly forever), have now been posted. If anyone ever wanted to have a go at the short-course and has never got around to it, then now's the time. Entries open tomorrow, so get your's in fast... More information (and a letter to all competitors) can be found here.
17th Oct 2007 - Hyden Wrapup (and other stuff)
Well Hyden's come and gone and all that's left is to throw up some results (which no doubt everyone has seen, but it's gotta be done). Without further ado, fanfare, or interposing sentences simply designed to draw out attachment of the simple link that everyone is looking for, the results are somewhere in here.
The WDR Presentation Dinner invitations are now out and there's a copy here for all to peruse. Payment/RSVP slips can be found here, and should be sent before the closing date (being the 30th of Nov). If you use the electronic funds transfer option, please enter your name as the transaction text, so we know who the money is from.
In addition to the upcoming WDR Presentation Dinner (yep, that's the one you should be going to), there's also the CAMS version being held in a couple of weeks. If anyone's interested, here's the flyer and the ticket order form.
In other news, my car battery was completely flat after getting back from Hedland; but ya get that in a big job...
23rd Sep 2007 - Information Promulgation
Well, attendance at the recent general meeting was pretty good; thanks to all who turned up to show their support for the club and to have their say. Items of note included a passionate discussion regarding the two Hyden rounds and the great unknown that is the Harvey shortcourse. Talking about Hyden, the Humps round is still scheduled for the 29-30th Sep (next weekend) and entries have now closed. As usual, it'll be a cracker of a course that all competitors should enjoy...
On another note, the dress standard for the Presentation Dinner (to be held at the Hotel Northbridge - 7th Dec) has been set at the smart/casual-to-cocktail, level. Ticket prices and other specifics will be available when the invites are mailed out shortly.
8th Sep 2007 - General Meeting
A general meeting has been scheduled for the 18th of this month at the Hyde Park Hotel. For those without calendars, that's a Tuesday (night), so no excuses about not being notified... Click on the image below to get the rest of the info.
1st Sep 2007 - Hyden Humps
Less than a month remains to get your car into shape for the annual Hyden Humps. Here's a friendly reminder that entries need to be in by the 21st of this month, for what promises to be another fast and furious race. For people that can't be bothered wading through all this info, the actual entry form is here.
15th Aug 2007 - WDR Presentation Dinner
News just in... the WDR Presentation Dinner has been booked at the Hotel Northbridge for the Friday night 7th December. A couple of questions come to mind; what to wear, who to bring and where did the rest of the year go??? More details will be provided as they come to hand...
9th Aug 2007 - Hyden Humps 2007
The sup. regs. (and a bunch of other info) has been posted for the Hyden Humps; scheduled to be run late next month at Smithy's Place. From all accounts, the really rough stuff has been chopped out of the course, so we should see a few more of the ol' Tin Tops finishing. Entries are now open, and we'll accept them via email now (plus there's EFT for those of you that don't have/want a cheque book); so there's no excuses not to send 'em in...
4th Aug 2007 - General Update
Spent a bit of time updating a few things around the website; including the new front page random image generator. If any club members have a nice pic of their car that they'd like shown, send it through to and I'll make sure it gets into the list.
Stay posted for the sup. regs. and other info for the upcoming Hyden Humps... and you should have received a newsletter in the post by now (if not it's here). Note that the meeting mentioned is NOT the AGM; it's simply a general meeting.
12th Jul 2007 - Harvey Short Course Results
Official results have now been posted for round 2 of the Harvey Short Course series, held last Saturday. Congratulations go to Harleigh Uren for the closely fought win over Max Pilmer; the end result being decided by only a couple of seconds. There's a few sets of photos and several videos that have been posted by various people listed here.
1st Jul 2007 - Harvey Short Course Update
Just posted the current entry list for the upcoming Harvey short-course. Competitors that wish to enter (or have) and aren't on the list should give Jez or Harleigh a call ASAP (see the Contacts page), as entries close on the 3rd.
21st Jun 2007 - Harvey Short Course Info
The sup. regs. for the Edge buggy demonstration to be held during the upcoming short-course at Harvey, have now been posted. An event poster has also been put together, so if you've got room on a noticeboard somewhere; bung one or two up.
5th Jun 2007 - Harvey Short Course Round 2
Well, now that you've all recovered from a pounding at Brookton, it's time to start thinking about getting the car back together for the next Harvey short course. Round 2 is going to be held on the 7th July 2007 and promises to be just as action packed as the first event held earlier this year. Entries need to be submitted ASAP to help with organising the event and should be sent to the relevent address (see the sup. regs).
Note that the organisers have reiterated that there are no dogs allowed and the bar license means no BYO. Help support the event and the club by buying a few beers across the bar, and we'll see it's continuing success.
More information (and the sup. regs.) is here.
8th May 2007 - Document Update
Updated a few of the documents available on the site (bulletins, minutes, etc); nothing particularly exciting. The next interesting thing (from a club perspective) is probably the Harvey short-course; unless someone tells me differently...
22nd Apr 2007 - Hyden 400 Results
Preliminary results for both the AORC and WAORC events have now been posted. Congratulations to Eric Phillips and John Karwacki for taking out both the AORC and WAORC rounds held over the weekend; hopefully the win will be the first of a string this year around the country.  Thanks also go to all the competitors, spectators, officials, sponsors and of course the Smith family, for making the event a huge success yet again.
A heap of photos taken at the event can be found over here at the OffRoadOz website.
26th Mar 2007 - Hyden 400 Update
59 entries and only 5 days to go before they close!
On another note, to assist with the running of the event it would be greatly appreciated
if race teams with idle crew could provide a person to assist with road crossing control.
Obviously this would only be during the first race section (run into the Hyden townsite and back)
during which time the crew hopefully wouldn't have much to do anyway. Offers of assistance
(for a job that involves watching all the race cars pass by - twice) should be forwarded to Frenchy
(see the Contacts page).

24th Mar 2007 - Hyden 400 Update
55 entries and counting... Note that there's only one week left before entries close (31st March), so get 'em in soon.
15th Mar 2007 - Hyden 400 Update
46 entries and counting... Thanks to the event's major sponsors, ARB and Pinjarra Engineering, the first AORC round for 2007 is going to be bigger and better than ever! In addition to the fantastic facilities at the track, there's also a few little extras. Flash (aka. Bruce Russell) will be setting up a portable lab to provide an onsite photo service, and SportZPrint will be producing screen-printed hats/shirts on demand. And if that's not enough, Madison Ceilings have thrown in a fair wad of cash for the top ten shoot-out, that should see it being a bit more than just a Sunday drive and a stop for tea and scones.
8th Mar 2007 - Hyden 400 Entry List Update
There are now 35 entries in for the Hyden 400, with over 1/3 of those being interstate AORC competitors. To showcase the event, WDR has again secured the services of David Adamson (from Jandakot Helicopters) to provide air-support for both video coverage and spectator use. If you want to give something back to a sponsor, or simply want to watch the action from a different point of view, the chopper can also be hired on a time basis.
7th Mar 2007 - Hyden 400 Registration of Officials
All officials-to-be for the Hyden 400 are requested to download this form, and send it off to the given address (hint - it's on the form). And before you ask, the answer is 'yes', even in this day-and-age of electronic wizardry we still require a signed paper copy, so no emails thanks.
On a completely separate note, in a direct response to a club initiative to move over to an electronic mailing list (rather than the rather more cumbersome, time consuming and expensive paper version), a mailing list subscription form has been setup. This form allows all interested parties the ability subscribe to the club's electronic mailing list and thus receive all club specific information via email. The full blurb can be read here and the form is over here.
6th Mar 2007 - Hyden 400 Entries
Entry numbers are now topping the 20 mark, with more waiting to be processed. Also, based on the hive of activity at the last event committee meeting, I'd say that competitors should expect to see something appearing in the mail shortly... All relevant information is in the usual location.
28th Feb 2007 - Hyden 400 Entries
Entries have started to flow in for the upcoming ARB - Pinjarra Engineering Hyden 400, to be held over the Easter long weekend at Smithy's Place (Hyden). A list is here and we'll be adding more information as it comes to hand. Note that when sending in entries, make sure all cheques are made payable to Western Desert Racers.
22nd Feb 2007 - Hyden 400 Sup. Regs.
Supplementary regulations (and a heap of other stuff) for the first round of the AORC comp. for 2007, the ARB - Pinjarra Engineering Hyden 400 2007, have been released. This event also constitutes the second round of the WAORC competition for 2007. All interested parties are advised to download a copy, fill 'em in and send 'em off ASAP. Note that no responsibility is taken for post sent to any address other than the official postal address, as follows:
The Event Secretary
ARB - Pinjarra Engineering Hyden 400 2007
PO Box 429
Welshpool WA 6986
BTW, if we receive your AORC entry before 5pm on 6th March 2007, you'll save yourself an easy $100 off the fee for AORC entries received after that time. Late entries close at 5pm on 31st March 2007. Note that a further 'Guide To Competitors' will be issued upon receipt of entry.
13th Feb 2007 - General Update
Obviously club memberships have been needing renewal for a while now. For those people who haven't done it yet (ps. there's not much time till Yealering), it would be a good idea to grab this form, print it out, sign it, make out a check to Western Desert Racers for $60, bung it all in an envelope with a stamp, and send it to the address on the form. Note that there's a bit of a paper backlog at the moment, however membership cards will be sent as soon as possible.
Also posted a panorama of Harvey taken during a lull in competition at the recent short-course. A picture may tell a thousand words, but this one completely misses the fact that it was hot; really hot. Luckily the organisers had performed a near-miracle and the track was basically dust and fly free!
9th Feb 2007 - Hyden 400 Update
Frenchy's pointing the finger at a certain confederation of motorsport (hint - this one's based in Australia) for being the reason for not having the Hyden 400 sup. regs. out already. The full gory details are here. On a lighter note, he's released the early entry form, so that everyone who's been hanging out for it, can actually submit one. Luckily, the early entry competition cut-off has been extended till the 28th February, so get those entries in.
Of course, all the latest Hyden 400 information is here.
5th Feb 2007 - Harvey Results
Just a quick note to post the preliminary results from Harvey. Congrats to Brian Uren on a very close outright win. Special mention should go to Matt O'Brien, who seemed quite intent on seeing how high his new car could fly...
1st Feb 2007 - Harvey
Some additional regulations have just been posted here for the Harvey short-course being run this Saturday evening. The event should see a good showing of offroad vehicles, with 21 competitors and 5 Edge buggies (running the demos). See you down there...
CAMS have also released an information paper regarding the effects of heat during motorsport. Given that it's supposed to be 41 this Saturday, it might be advisable to take a few bottles of water down to Harvey with you (plus some sunburn cream and a hat).
30th Jan 2007 - Harvey
The Harvey shortcourse is on this Saturday, so you should all make an attempt to get down there and have a look at some of the best short-course offroad action in WA. Food and drinks are available onsite, so all you need to bring is a chair or two and to be there for the start of racing at around 3pm. More information can be found here.
NB. If you plan on winning OffroadOz's Best Photograph competition, you'd better bring along a camera as well...
25th Jan 2007 - AORC Round 1 - Hyden Info
Frenchy's put together a spiel regarding some of the info you may like to know about the upcoming AORC round out at Smithy's place in Hyden. The document is here or can be found on the Hyden info page here, under Information flyers. Note that the sup. regs. for this event are yet to be released.
18th Jan 2007 - Harvey Shortcourse - Edge Buggy Sup. Regs.
Supplementary regulations for Edge buggies running down at Harvey during the upcoming shortcourse (3rd Feb 2007) have been approved by CAMS and are now available with the rest of the event information here. Note that if you're planning on entering the event, you should seriously consider getting your entry in soon...
15th Jan 2007 - Harvey Busybee
Better late than never... a busybee has been scheduled for the track down at Harvey to prepare it for it's upcoming short-course. Work starts at 9am on Saturday 20th Jan (yep, that's this weekend), will run for most of the day and includes some painting, marking, fencing, and track preparation. Interested parties should give Harleigh a call on 0438 901 757 or email him at .
8th Jan 2007 - Hyden Test&Tune and Busybee
A test&tune plus busybee is scheduled for the Australia Day long weekend (26th-28th January) to prepare for the upcoming AORC round at the Smith's place in Hyden. The ToDo list includes a general paint/mow/repair, a bit of fencing and possibly the installation of some poly pipe. Following this, there's the opportunity to run your race-car/quad around a bit of the track and a BBQ on Saturday night (BYO). Interested parties just need to bring themselves, a bit of food and something to sleep in. Contact Ian French on 0418 906 393 or email him at if you need any further info.
